Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED
National Weather Service Little Rock AR
608 AM CDT Fri Aug 15 2025

...New AVIATION...

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1247 AM CDT Fri Aug 15 2025

All quiet across the Natural State early this Fri morning...with dry
conditions...a mostly clear sky...and temps in the mid 70s to low
80s. The center of the upper ridge is located to the NW of the state
early this morning...but this will change later today and over the
weekend.

Temps today will be similar to maybe slightly warmer than seen on
Thu for this Fri afternoon. Dewpts will also be similar or maybe
slightly higher for portions of the area. Resulting heat index
values will increase as a result. Have expanded the Heat Adv to
include areas with best potential for getting near or exceeding Heat
Adv criteria this Fri afternoon.

The upper ridge to the NW of the state this morning will slowly
shift east over the weekend...becoming centered over MO into NRN AR
by Sun morning. This trend will allow for temps to remain above
normal for highs over the weekend...with the overall chances for
convection remaining generally low. However...this doesn`t mean
there will be no potential for some isolated afternoon convection
over the weekend. With the center of the upper ridge mainly north of
AR...and portions of the state seeing a bit less influence from this
upper ridge...do think some isolated afternoon pulse-type convection
will still be possible for some areas into early next week.

By the middle to latter half of next week...the upper ridge will
shift west over the 4-Corners region of the CONUS. This will allow
for AR to be under a more NRLY/NWRLY flow aloft later next
week...resulting in cooler temps...and better potential for
afternoon convection. There may even be potential for a weak cold
front to drop south into/through the state by late next week...which
may provide some enhanced potential for rain. However...there is
some uncertainty on when this front will move through...and how
potent the impacts will be. Even so...cooler temps and at least some
increased potential for afternoon convection will be seen by late
next week.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 606 AM CDT Fri Aug 15 2025

A few areas could see some localized FG development through
daybreak, but coverage should remain limited and likely not impact
most terminals. Otherwise, VFR conditions are expected through the
period with variable winds at less than 10 kts. Afternoon RA/TS
activity is expected to be less today, but SE AR will likely see the
most precip. KLLQ has the best chance of impacts to cigs/vsby/wind
after 15/18z.
